On Thursday noon 10-1- 2019, the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education in collaboration with: Royal Jordanian Geographic Center, Regional Office of Astronomy Development in the Arab World, the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences and with the Jordanian Astronomical Society, invited speakers on the occasion of 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Astronomical Union(IAU) to celebrate the international activity entitle “Astronomy unites us under one sky” The Director General of the United Arab Emirates Space Agency, Dr. Mohamed Ahbabi along with many of experts and specialists in astronomy, amateurs and professionals, officials of public and private sectors, universities, as well as heads of astronomical and physical associations and university students were attended. In his speech, the Director General of the Center indicated to the development of astronomy, space technology and discoveries made by the developed countries.
He also marked to the role played by the Arab countries in setting up space agencies, centers and specialized astronomical observatories and the importance of launching satellites in many research fields. He pointed out Jordan hosts the Regional Office of Astronomy Development in the Arab World since 2015, in addition to the election of Jordan as a member of the International Astronomical Union in August 2018 in Vienna, in present of 3500 members representing various countries.
Dr. Al-Khasawneh mentioned in his speech the offers of the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center in providing the national institutions with the necessary maps, aerial and space imagery and geographic information. The important roles played by the Regional Center and the Arab Union of Space and Astronomy Sciences in developing astronomy and astrophysics in the region. Dr. Al-Khasawneh praised the international position of the UAE to explore outer space, especially Mares projects, finally he congratulated Dr. Ahbabi for selecting him as one of the 15 global influential figure in the space sector.In his speech, the honor guest, Eng. Al-Ahbani, , presented the UAE experience in space exploration, Mares program, sending of Emirati astronauts, as the first Arab and Islamic country.
Eng. Al-Ahbabi pointed out that Jordan has good infrastructure space science, he wished to cooperate with Jordan in the exchange of scientific and training experiences in space science and technology fields. In a Dialogue session Eng. Ahbabi answered the questions of the audience. On the sidelines of the meeting there was a video show of astronomical activities in Jordan. After the Dialogue session the Director-General invited Eng. Al-Ahbabi to open the Jordanian Astronomical Society Astronomical photographic exhibition. Eng. Al-Ahbabi was honored a shield presented by Dr. Awni Al-Khasawneh the Director-General, Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education.
