The Director General of the Jordanian Royal Geographical Center (JRGC) and the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for Western Asia (RCSSTE-WA) , Brig. Gen. Dr. Eng. Awni Al-Khasawneh, highlighted the importance of regional cooperation among Arab countries in space technology. He also pointing out that the establishment of RCSSTE-WA is a very important step to enhance the capabilities of the Kingdom and the region in space science and technology for the benefit of the region which will support their development and economic plans.
On behalf of the Emirates Space Agency the agreement was signed on Wednesday 9/1/2019 by Dr. Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Director General of the Emirates Space Agency as a regional member of RCSSTE-WA. The agreement was signed in the presence of UAE Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Matar Al Shamsi, the UAE Military Attaché and senior officials from both sides.
The agreement includes steps to enhance the university professors, scientists and researchers in space science and technology skills. Developing the use of remote sensing and atmospheric techniques, aeronautical navigation and environmental management skills, help professors to develop their space science curricula and applied programs, as well as exchanging their experiments and information in space techniques.
Dr. Al-Khasawneh was praised the UAE membership and its importance for achieving a qualitative steps in space science and technology, this will have great effect on transferring their expertise to the Arab region, he also praised the UAE global position in the field of space science and technology, especially the Ala’mal Space Program ‘Hope Space Program”, the first space project – in the region – to explore Mars. As well as the announcement of the selection of Emiratis astronauts, in addition to the adoption of the first space law in the Middle East. Dr. Al-Ahbabi expressed his pleasure in joining this partnership, stressing his country’s determination to cooperate with various regional and international countries to expand its space program to provide its space services in sustainable social and economic development.
He expressed his country’s desire to enhance cooperation with Jordan to exchange scientific and training experiences in space science and technology, and appreciated the historical bilateral relations between the two countries at all levels.
Al-Ahbabi praised the efforts of Jordan represented by (JRGC) with technical and scientific expertise and for hosting a number of regional space and astronomy centers, especially hosting RCSSTE-WA.
At the end of the meeting, Brig. Gen. Dr. Al-Khasawneh accompanied with Dr. Al-Ahbabi and his team on a tour within RCSSTE-WA building.During his stay, Dr. Al-Ahbabi met with Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Raja Al-Muasher, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Mahmoud Freihat, and visited the Jordanian University of Science and Technology, Hashemite University, the National Center for Security and Crisis Management.
